BDC Cutout is a video sculpture exploring the eerie beauty of an abandoned building. A metal cutout of the building’s floor plan is hidden behind its border. A blurred sequence of images from the space are overlayed using projection. The images penetrate the sculpture revealing its depth and placing the viewer inside.
BDC Video Instrument is an electronic instrument built using Arduino that serves as a controller for the video. The instrument is a secondary map of the building, its controls reflect the geography of the building and each button effects a corresponding section of the video. Using the instrument, the viewer can traverse through the video as if it were space.
Sonic Map Instrument is a miniature electronic instrument built using Arduino that serves as a sound map of Brooklyn and Queens. The controls are again a representation of geography and the sounds reflect relevant localities. Neighborhoods are abstracted into floating masses determining the sound and feel of the instrument.
